In 5 years, I have many plans but I don’t know , I can achieve the purposes as I have been thinking about my plans in future, I’m not sure but I should try to do it.
Some things I want to manage in future are: improve my English and get into college, become U.S citizens, can teach people about meditation by English. The first thing is so important to me and anyways I must get into it. So that, I have to learn more and more English every day, must learn new vocabulary, practice listening to the radio, pronunciation, conversation, and writing. These skills are difficult for me but I always try to learn, (and I hope My Teacher will help me about the good ways how to learn about that). And if I enroll in college, I will to learn about psychology , I known this topic too difficult for me because my English not good but I always hope with myself and the help of Teachers and my friends. I think if I can do the first thing is smooth, the rest may be slightly more leisurely and can be.
That is my plans in 5 years, I don’t know exactly there are not as expect but I always hope and try to do that.

I have been in some other states but I have felt Chicago better than other ones. The two things I really like about Chicago which other states don’t have are: the view of Lake Michigan and the impossibility of earthquakes.
The Lake Michigan is beautiful; when I go in the lake shore drive, I feel interested. The view of Chicago is wonderful. At the summers, lots of people come there were camping and playing some kind of game in there…, Chicago has Lake Michigan so that the weather in summer is pleasant than others. In addition, Chicago is a place of peace about the disaster: we don’t have earthquake disaster, tornados, flooding. So, Chicago is considered one of the peaceful places of the weather disaster.
Chicago has some things I like but also have 2 things I don’t like. The first, the winter weather is too cold and often change up and down of the weather and have ice. I can’t stand that. The second; the parking is so difficult, everywhere so hard for parking, and more difficult in the winter.
However, I prefer to live in Chicago than other states, although a lot of snow and difficult parking.

For me, one day stands out: the day my friends took me to the East River Barge in New York. It must have been March or April, 1991, just a few weeks after I had come to the US. My life had been rathern bleak: no money, no job, the return ticket to Ukraine literally burning my pocket, tempting me to end this uncertainty and return to a safe cocoon of my home country. But then I was ushered to an open deck of the barge amd handed a miracle medicine that seemed to have cured my nostalgia – Margarita On the Rocks. So there I was, sitting on a beach chair looking at incredible view of sunset Manhattan with Margarita in my hand thinking: what the hell, I am going to make it here!

Today, I know how to cook fried rice and better than before. I really love fried rice dish, so I have plans this weekend, I’ll invite my friends to the temple to enjoy some food I cook. I think I will invite Aram, he is a Thailand Buddhist monk and another friend, his name is Tri, he is my old friend from Vietnam. He has been in Chicago for 8 months. After dinner, we will have a tea meditation; we will talk about Dharma and share experiences and talk about every day to learn English to improve how to do better and try to learn English more and more. I hope we have fun dinner and the conversation that will be interesting and useful.

each time, without fail, I tell my students that it has been one of the most enlightening experiences for me, and each time I mean it, because there is no such thing as the same class, kinda like fingerprints or snowflakes are all different.

This class gave me a unique pleasure of getting to know some of the most memorable people I’ve ever encountered in my 29 year career as a teacher. To name just a few: I have never taught anyone as complex and deep as Vissanou, as bright and positive as Jenny, as loyal and dedicated as Minh, as steady and wise as Rigoberto, as pleasant and friendly as Quih, as fast and spontaneous as Niih, as beautiful and spiritual as Asel (my candidate for Miss Truman of all times), as dependable and easy to teach as Angel…The list can go on and on, but the point is: I had a wonderful time, and if my students can say the same, then my mission has been accomplished.

How do i feel about Victor’s class?

first of all i would like to say thanks to victor that he taught me and my classmates many things that we did not know. this class was awesome , this class is the best class i ever had.

Victor’s class was awesome because Victor he knows how to make his students come to school and he knows how to entertain and teach. it was really fun his my class. the first time that i came to schoool i was like “OMG my teacher he is really funny” then after that day i kept coming to school and pay attention in his class even though some time i couldnt made it because something came up but i was still thinking about my victor class and want to be there.

Victor placed humor with his lesson, and I enjoyed that. It made learning a bit more interesting. it made me want to come to school everyday. all of my classmates they are cool even some of them are funny, old and they talk a lot and loud but it has nothing to do with that because they are really smart and bright

By: Visanou Bounthavy

How has my life changed after coming to this country?
I would like to say my life has changed a lot. First of all I would like to tell you guys how my life was back when I was in my country. I was like a child, because every time if I wanted something I will always get money from my Parents. I always tell them To buy this, buy that for me .
But my life in the USA is absolutely different from how I was. The first month I was staying with my cousin I was so bored I had nothing to do. I was just staying home. One day i felt that i wanted to do something. I just tried to find something to do . I walked into a Thai restaurant and inquired if they are hiring . I got lucky that day because the Thai restaurant called me back and they said they will hire me. I was so excited because it was my first job. So I called my mom right away and told her the good news. She was so happy for me.
Before my mom went back to my country I took her around Chicago, i took her to the restaurants, museums, & shopping. I gave her some money from what I got from my work, she was so proud of me. I was proud of myself too, because I was giving back what she gave me when I was back in my country.
As I told you guys how my life was. I grew up fast and I learned how to live by myself, I learned how to take care of myself. I’m living in this country which is not my native country and which is not the same language. Every morning when I woke up I greeted people “good morning” or talk to people who does not talk the same language as me. When I walk outside or go to a store I meet all types of races like Black, White, Indian, Mexican, Asian. But if I’m in my country I will never see all types of race at the same place. I like making friends with different people. Just like my roommates, who are American & Latin.
So to end this, I just want to say my life here really has changed and I learned a lot of experience.

Although his mouth says about sex too much. But I know he just wanted us have a good atmosphere. And he taught things that are very useful. Makes it easy to understand,But something i don’t really like is about my classmate who come late ,why they shut the door made some Sound,They did not know when they came late opened the door and then shut the door was really disturbing for us .Why they can not keep the door open, let it stay open. But overall, I like this class and i think this class is Perfect.
